This palace was founded in the 12th century and since then it has constantly expanded. It is among the most visited places in Beijing. It is surrounded by extensive gardens, which have diverse structures such as bridges, pavilions or temples, but also lakes and streams. A sight to see is Suzhou Street, a water channel in the spirit of Venice, along which there are many shops and restaurants. Don’t forget to climb uphill to the great temple built in a Tibetan style and look around, you will see as far as Beijing skyscrapers. Part of the palace is also the large lake of Kunming, where you can see dragon boats carrying tourists, or the famous Empress Cixi's marble boat anchored right in the water.

You can get there by bus, which leaves from the nearest subway station.
