St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, commonly referred to as Petrov, is among the architectural jewels of the city. It is one of the two most typical features of the city, the other one being Spilberk Castle. The cathedral was originally built in a Gothic style in the 12th century. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries a Neo-Gothic reconstructions took place. At this time the temple also got its typical two towers.

Visitors can enter the Romanesque-Gothic crypt, which represents the oldest history of the monument. In the crypt, exhibitions, concerts of chamber music and spiritual lectures are occasionally held. Those who like observation from the towers can enjoy the view of Brno from the tower, which has 130 steps. One of the permanent exhibitions is that of the cathedral treasury, which displays congregational fabric, monstrance, goblets and other objects previously hidden from the visitor's eye in inaccessible depositories. Curiously the bells of Petrov ring noon at 11 o'clock. Why? During the siege of Brno in 1645 by the Swedish army, General Torstenson promised that if his troops do not conquer the city by noon, they will retreat. Maybe they would have been successful, if the bells of Petrov didn´t ring noon as early as 11 o’clock. Brno thus remained unconquered.

The distinctive silhouette of St. Peter and Paul Cathedral has even been depicted on the Czech ten-crown coin.
