The Janáček Theatre is one of the youngest theatres in Brno. It was opened in 1965, thematically with the performance of Leoš Janáček’s play Cunning Little Vixen. The monumental and architecturally rather traditional building is partially surrounded by a city park. The auditorium is structured as a tiered amphitheatre and the stage has a turntable. In front of the theatre there is a statue of Leoš Janáček. The theatre has in its repertoire particularly opera and ballet performances by both classical and contemporary authors. Among the members of the theatre ensemble are some big names in opera and ballet. Janáček Theatre is one of the scenes of the National Theatre in Brno.
