Al Fahidi Fort on the shores of the Gulf of Dubai, built in the late 18th century, is nowadays used as the place for the Dubai Museum.

The main idea is to acquaint visitors with the traditional way of life in Dubai even before the discovery of oil. There are lots of old artefacts - weapons, tools and jewellery. The whole concept is shown in a fun and very visual manner, where you can also get the picture of how people lived at that time.

In the upper-ground part are chambers showing artefacts, a courtyard with an old boat and a demonstration of traditional dwellings. The underground part enters into the ancient world, where you will be accompanied by a short educational video on the development of the Emirates and many figurines depicting traditional crafts and way of life. There are also shops with spices, textiles, a tailor´s shop, exhibit of a school and traditional crafts, seating by the fire, life and encounters on the street, a stuffed camel and a woman in a traditional iron mask, and others. A special section is devoted to life at the seaside - shipbuilding, fishing and hunting pearls.

Admission is only a symbolic three dirhams for a museum worth seeing, it is definitely not boring.
